10 Terrible CGI Moments In Big Budget TV Shows
9. Charmed - Orbing
Charmed originally aired way back in 1998, and ran for 178 episodes over 8 seasons before ending in 2006.
Something of a cult favourite, the show follows the story of three powerful witches that protect the world from evil using their magic to fight against demons and warlocks, all while balancing normal lives in modern-day San Francisco.
Charmed's magical premise required the use of an awful lot of CGI, some of which holds up better than others. Every episode features numerous spells, all of which vary in nature and as a result, the CGI is somewhat spotty throughout the series.
Nowhere is the CGI's low quality more noticeable than when a character teleports, an act known in the show as "orbing".
Essentially, a character disappears in a flurry of orbs and then reappears in another flurry elsewhere. The effect looks as though it has been lifted straight from Star Trek: The Original Series over 3 decades prior, inspiring actual physical cringes when viewed today.
The worst part is, orbing is used frequently in the show, meaning that you'll have to witness it over and over if you're rewatching Charmed.
