To this day it is still shocking that this show was ever canceled in the first place.
Unfortunately, creator Joss Whedon was never really given a chance. As soon as production had begun, reviewers constantly compared it to Whedon's previous work, the super successful Buffy the Vampire Slayer, despite massive differences. Fans screamed and shouted but nothing was done about it. Yeah, we all love Buffy, but that's finished and we wanted a replacement.
Furthermore, the show was given a shoddy time slot and was sometimes shown in the wrong order, confusing audiences from the get-go. It wasn't even given a chance.
Over the years, there have been rumors with regards to its return, but just like the show's eventual demise, the gossip turned into hearsay and eventually dust.
