10 Terrifying Batman: The Animated Series Episodes That Gave You Nightmares

8. His Silicon Soul

Two Face Batman Animated Shocked
Warner Bros.

This episode begins like any traditional Batman tale does: thugs break into a warehouse ready to start stealing stuff. Except when they open a crate, out pops Batman. One of them draws a gun and fires, hitting Bats right in the torso. There isn't any blood, because this Batman is a robot, filled with circuitry.

The sheer shock of Batman being shot would be enough to give a disturbing chill, but that is only the tip of the iceberg. This duplicate is a perfect replica of Batman, with all the memories of Bruce and Batman, but it doesn't know that it's not. The next five or so minutes is the robot going back to Wayne Manor, being utterly confused at his robotic life, only to be met with a horrified Alfred. It's a chilling look at where humanity lies, as Robo-Bats figures out what he is through research.

The grand finale of this episode also holds shades of Terminator as Robo-Bats goes evil to continue the work of his maker, trying to have synthetic life conquer the world, with the real flesh-and-blood Batman needing to stop him. However, the scariest sequence occurs during the scene where Robo-Bats unmasks himself.
