7. Sam Is Writing A Song Of Ice And Fire

This one is fairly straightforward and may be more of an Easter Egg than a real event, but it’s interesting nonetheless.

A popular theory about Sam’s end game is that he will not only survive the war, he’ll go on to write A Song Of Ice And Fire in-universe, solidifying the legacy of everyone involved in the Great War.

Overall, it’s difficult to rationalise the chances of it happening. However, the fact George R.R. Martin has consistently said Sam is the character he’s most similar too is the cornerstone of this theory. It might happen, but it can’t be foreshadowed like the other theories here as much.

The opening credits look a little like the equipment in the Maester’s chambers where Sam works as well, hinting that he’s the overall narrator of the story. Plus, after losing Hodor, we all want Sam to see the whole thing out.

An alternate theory is that this is a tale told to Bran as he lays in bed, recovering from Jaime pushing him out of the window. But if it turns out to have all been a dream, there’ll be riots. Plus, what’s Old Nan doing telling Bran about brutal killings and graphic sex in explicit detail?
