10 Theories For The Final Season Of Game Of Thrones
6. Cleganebowl
Initially, Cleganebowl (the epic battle between the Hound and the Mountain) seemed like fan fiction. The Hound was dying, the Mountain was a zombie, and even if there was a maester behind that rock, they were hundreds of miles apart with no reason to ever meet again.
In Season 7 though, they meet face to face. The Hound steps up as if to challenge him, then offers a cryptic message: "You know what’s coming for you. You’ve always known."
We know The Hound has a fledgling ability to read flames, so is it possible he foresaw Cleganebowl in the fire? There’s been some debate that the Mountain can read flames too, and that his anger at seeing the Hound kill him motivated his attack when they were children.
Crucially, we know that fire is one of the few ways the undead can be killed in Westeros. Though the Mountain isn’t a white walker or a wight, he’s essentially Qyburn’s own version of one. Perhaps the Hound will have gotten over his fears after staying with Beric and Thoros, exacting a flaming revenge on his brother for the brutal attack that scarred him all those years ago.
