10 Things Angel Did Better Than Any Other Show

1. Death Scenes

This is the one thing that, without a doubt, 'Angel' does better than any other show. From the first soldier down, all the way to that final shot in "Not Fade Away", 'Angel' does death scenes right. Some shows tend to go for the shock value of a death or telegraph it too much in the lead-up to the actual moment. 'Angel' gets it right every single time. Not only is it shocking when a character on 'Angel' dies, but it's almost beautiful in how they die. Little things that nobody thinks about like who was there to witness it, what was said before and after the death, and what it means to every single character is well-thought out in advance. And while it's still not easy to see them go through with actually killing off a beloved character, you're somehow able to accept it because you know that it's always in service for the greater good. Every character's death is perfect for that specific character. And each one has an iconic image or phrase that's indelibly linked to that death. The best part is, it never feels cheap or too schmaltzy. Sure, there's the cliche of some choice final words being uttered before finally shuffling loose their mortal coils, but it's always done with the same great writing that's expected of the show. Every death on 'Angel' is sure to make you tear up just thinking about it. Back during a time before shows like 'Game Of Thrones', 'Lost' and 'The Walking Dead' would start killing off major characters to the genuine shock of millions, 'Angel' did it first. And did it better.
