5. Tom Bakers Scarf Was An Accident
One of the most well-known and popular incarnation of the time travelling hero was Tom Bakers Fourth Doctor. With his eccentric behaviour, lively manner, love of jellybeans and questionable dress sense he is one of the most instantly recognisable television characters of all time. In fact if you ask most fans around the world to think of the Doctor theyll probably picture Bakers portrayal. One of the stand out parts of his appearance was the exceptionally long scarf that he wore at all times. Well it turns out that it should never have been that length in the first place. According to the man himself the oversized scar was an error on the part of costume designer Begonia Pope. She was given plenty of wool to choose a design after being asked to knit the accessory. But Pope wasnt told how long to make it and mistakenly used all of the material she was provided with, leading to the excessive size. The rest of the team liked the result so much that they decided to use it. After shortening it slightly they gave it to Tom Baker and the rest is history.
