10 Things You Didn't Know About Sarah Michelle Gellar

4. Buffy's Producers Wanted Her To Play Cordelia

In 1997, when Sarah Michelle Gellar landed the iconic titular role of Buffy Summers in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Gellar had indeed auditioned for the role of Buffy first. However, the show's producers thought that she was better suited to play Cordelia Chase. Cordelia was the popular but extremely obnoxious cheerleader who would ultimately go on to become Buffy's friend and then take on a more central role in the Buffy spin-off Angel - a show where she would become a heroine in her own right. She was played by Charisma Carpenter. Of course, Gellar would persist in competing for the role of Buffy, which she eventually won, and the rest is history. In landing the role of Buffy Summers, she beat out the likes of Selma Blair and Katie Holmes, both of whom ended up on other Warner Brothers shows (Dawson€™s Creek and Zoe, Duncan, Jack and Jane).
