10 Things Disney+ NEEDS To Do With The Marvel Netflix Characters
2. A Larger Budget
The show that suffered the most from having a lack of budget was by far Iron Fist, which couldn't even build a full set for Kun'Lun, instead only being able to show off blank, character-less rooms with the occasional old guy spouting mystical nonsense so the audience is clued into where they're SUPPOSED to be. All the ancient, well preserved Tibetan temples in the world, and they couldn't even afford a single crane shot to establish setting. That's a problem.
The barely there budget also gets in the way of telling a proper story. The Defenders had to bend over backwards to make the threat of The Hand feel big enough to warrant the assembling of the team, while also having to hamstring themselves so they don't do anything too massive because they just flat out do not have the money. Resulting in a convoluted story that WANTS to be big and epic, but just results in more people fighting in a dark room.
Fortunately, Disney+ is going to give all of its Marvel shows the budget of their big screen counterparts, which, while a dangerous game to play to be sure, is definitely what The Defenders need to reach the heights that their Netflix counterparts never could.
