10 Things Futurama Wants You To Forget

1. Bend-Her

Futurama Amy Bender
Fox

In the Season Four episode that saw Bender's dreams of becoming an Olympic bending champion smashed, he decided to undergo a sex change so he could compete and easily win five gold medals in the women's games. This episode simply has not aged well, and the producers wouldn't dream of an episode like this in 2020.

The LGBTQ community wasn't represented nearly as much in the entertainment industry back in 2003, with Bender's sex change being the butt of almost every joke in the episode. This is a very serious transition that a lot of people go through in life, and to have an entire 20 minutes dedicated to making a punchline out of it now seems in very bad taste.

On top of this, very outdated female stereotypes of uncontrollable mood swings and being too emotional make up a big chunk of the episode, in place of the usual witty and sharp humour the show is known for.

The final offensive cherry on this particular cake, is the lack of respect shown to female athletes, when a completely untrained manbot is able to easily and effortlessly beat the competition at a moment's notice.
