10 Things Futurama Wants You To Forget

4. Leela's Parents

For so long, Leela was thought to be an alien, and the last one of her kind. In 'A Bicyclops Built For Two' in Season Two, she thought she found her people, but it was simply a shape-shifting jerk with five castles that needed looking after. It wasn't until 'Leela's Homeworld' in Season Four that she finally met Morris and Munda.

Her real parents were in fact mutants rather than aliens, and in an incredibly touching episode, Leela finally found out who she was. However, the Planet Express captain had met her parents in the sewers two years before in 'I Second That Emotion'.

Granted, Leela wouldn't have been looking for her parents when she was in the sewers going after Nibbler, but surely she would have noticed that there were two people who looked very similar to her down there, with just one eye each. You know, like she has never seen in her life before.

This would have been worth at least a couple of questions, right? Instead, Leela stayed ignorant for another two seasons. Perhaps this was left as a little easter egg, or maybe the writers had no idea that these characters would come into play later on. Either way, the overall story works so much better if this original meeting never happened.
