In the ninth episode of season one, Trou Normand, we opened on a totem pole on a beach. It was a moment that was so utterly extreme it took a few minutes to register what we were looking at. The totem pole was made up of dead bodies, It was something so bold we couldn't really believe it was happening. It was that sense of horrific spectacle that makers the show stand out from the movies. Its not just the level of horror that the show masters (more on that next) but the sheer spectacle in the way it is presented. The series is filled with bold, dramatic imagery that hooks the audience and pulls them into this world. The movies made a great effort to capture the big moments from the books but the TV series goes further, mixing realism with epic moments that stick in our minds forever. We all remember the moment in Silence Of The Lambs where the FBI discover the warden strung up in Hannibal's cage as part of his escape, That was a big set piece in one movie. Hannibal the TV show does that every week.

I aim to achieve my goal for writing for television (and get my novels published) but in the meantime I'll continue to write about those TV shows I love!
