In the second episode of season two, Sakizuki, the victim wakes up sewn into a murial of human bodies. What follows is one of the most shocking, uncomfortable moments in the shows history as he tears himself free - literally - from the other corpses and tries to make a frantic escape from the killer. Back in season one we had something as chilling as the Sloth man in the movie Seven - humans buried in the Earth, mushrooms growing from their bodies. Audiences were sick and shocked at the same time when one of the victims woke up. Not to mention the two victims in season ones Coquilleskneeling at the foot of their bed, the skin off their backs strung up like angel wings. Biblical imagery transformed into Gothic Horror before our very eyes. The films certainly delved into the macabre but nothing on the scale of the TV series. Week on week we have seen the horrors of humanity unfold before the FBIs eyes. Much of it is at Hannibals hands but through the investigations of the first two seasons we have witnessed some truly horrific murders from a multitude of killers. The show has brought a level of horror to television few shows have been able to emulate. You have to wonder what goes through Bryan Fuller and his fellow writers head to conjure these ideas. But they have done Thomas Harriss novels justice by expanding the horror that fills the world of Hannibal Lecter.
A writer for Whatculture since May 2013, I also write for TheRichest.com and am the TV editor and writer for Thedigitalfix.com . I wrote two plays for the Greater Manchester Horror Fringe in 2013, the first an adaption of Simon Clark's 'Swallowing A Dirty Seed' and my own original sci-fi horror play 'Centurion', which had an 8/10* review from Starburst magazine! (http://www.starburstmagazine.com/reviews/eventsupcoming-genre-events/6960-event-review-centurion) I also wrote an episode for online comedy series Supermarket Matters in 2012. I aim to achieve my goal for writing for television (and get my novels published) but in the meantime I'll continue to write about those TV shows I love!
