10 Things You Need To Know About The Constantine Reboot

3. The Big Bad Is Papa Midnite

The pilot will introduce Papa Midnite as the big bad of Constantine's world, who will continue as the main villain of the show throughout its first season, if it gets past the pilot stage. This version of the character will be a Cuban man who can dream the future, but who is currently ailing and is doing a lot of cocaine to stay awake, presumably to avoid dreaming about something ominous. In the comics, Midnite has been around since revolutionary times, and came into contact with Constantine when the sorceror ripped him off for fifty thousand dollars. Intriguingly, Midnite initially teams up with Constantine to take on a demon, Mnemoth, which could offer the opportunity to introduce the character, and also to set up an early plot twist where it is revealed that Midnite is not exactly as he seems. According to other leaked details, the pilot will feature a subplot providing Midnite with a kind of origin, and will present him an immortal voodoo priest and organized crime leader. The idea for the series will be for Midnite and Constantine to face off multiple times, as the stakes get higher and higher. There's no word yet on who will be playing Papa Midnite, but he was previously played by Djimon Hounsou in the Keanu Reeves movie. David S Goyer also said that other characters from the DC universe will show up if the series gets a full season order, but that the characters will mainly be "occult figures," such as Zatanna, Madame Xanadu, Swamp Thing and Constantine's demonic enemies Nergal and Rosacarnis, the former of whom has been cast by the mostly unknown Joey Phillips.
