Oh Grandpa. In real life, grandparents are sources of candy, presents, stories about the good old days, baked goods - and kids don't really get what a pain in the ass getting old does. Parents, not wanting to worry them, just let it be. Abe Simpson, however, is old age personified. The loss, the loneliness, the confusion, the humiliation of getting stuck in a home, the brief glimpses of hope (getting a job) that all to often wind up snatched away. In short, the ravages of time. And yet Grandpa is still one of the most consistently funny characters on the show.
