10 Things The Simpsons Taught You Better Than Your Parents

6. The Older You Get, The Less You Understand Pop Culture

"I used to be with it, but then they changed what *it* was. Now what I'm with isn't *it*, and what's *it* seems weird and scary to me." said Abe Simpson in Homerpalooza. It's hard to disagree with that one, Grandpa. Bieber. One Direction. What gives? Remember when what was *it* was rock bands, sex drugs and rock n' roll, fast lifestyles, and eventually crashing, burning (and, if you survived, settling down)? That was probably scary for Grandpa, but for many an 80 or 90s kid, that was what was *it* - except nobody used the word "it" like that at that point. Now? Hipsters, pop acts who are mostly auto-tuned beyond recognition, high waisted shorts (which may be out of style again by the time this is published), and cashing in on grunge nostalgia. Just what on earth is "pale grunge" supposed to be, anyway? Yeah, the older you get, the less you understand pop culture. Mom and dad didn't teach you that very well - you just thought they were out of touch. Turns out, they were, but it's not their fault - it happens to everyone.
