6. Getting Even Remotely Excited Over Hootie & The Blowfish
The success of Friends and Hootie And The Blowfish, for a time, neatly mirrored one another. The band broke out in an overcrowded genre in the '90s, with their charming good-time vibes striking a chord with America in a time when everything seemed to be competing to just be the loudest and the sexiest. Dealing with serious real-life issues with a comforting drawl and a relatable persona.
Hootie And The Blowfish were to American rock music what Friends were to sitcoms. You see, going to see The Blowfish in the late 90s was probably one of the most expensive and sought-after concerts on the planet - now the lead singer has a few country albums out and the band get together for a special Support The Troops show every couple of years. Just like the (young) faces of the cast are a comforting reminder of how the cultural landscape looked prior to the year 2000, Hootie And The Blowfish's 3 Top 5 US albums remind you how it sounded.
