6. Legal Eagles
Chris Chibnall defied viewers' expectations in some ways making Broadchurch into a legal saga, as Joe appealed his sentence and the public met two substantial new characters - Charlotte Rampling's veteran barrister Jocelyn Knight and Marianne-Jean Baptiste's QC Sharon Bishop. The two had history, Bishop being Knight's protégé, and old wounds were opened when they battled it out over the death of Danny Latimer. The end of Series 2 saw them agree to join forces and go on as partners, but that isn't necessarily the conclusion to their tale. Bishop nearly tore Broadchurch apart for the sake of her career. That fact alone qualifies her for victim status in the third series. Knight faced personal challenges due to failing sight. Should Chibnall continue her development, this could be explored in more detail. Also Rampling and Baptiste were two major signings, and ITV would be keen to see them appear again.
