If the last series showed anything, it was Chibnall's fearlessness in shaking up the established format and bringing in fresh characters. Broadchurch contains numerous faces from the worlds of Doctor Who, and spin-off Torchwood got a nod when Eve Myles joined the cast as kinky hairdresser Claire Ripley. It's a reasonable assumption Series 3 will usher in new people, and some notable performers following the involvement of Charlotte Rampling, Marianne-Jean Baptiste and James D'Arcy in Series 2. The money is on the sci-fi-obsessed writer looking to his former shows for inspiration. He is known for devising roles for specific people, and those he's familiar with are surely in the frame for that fateful phone call. While talent such as John Barrowman would be fun (as well as boosting the programme's transatlantic appeal thanks to his Whovian credentials/part in Arrow), and Bradley Walsh is a probable shoo-in, the bets may well be in favour of Freema Agyeman. She was in Doctor Who, Torchwood and Law & Order: UK, dramas Chibnall played a major part in. Additionally her American stock is healthy after appearances in Sex & The City prequel The Carrie Diaries, and upcoming TV project Sense8 from Matrix creators The Wachowskis.
