8. Even Childish Gambino Loved The Payday Rap
Although Donald Glover gained fame as rapper Childish Gambino after leaving the show, he is arguably one of two successful rappers in the cast. In the Season 5 episode VCR Maintenance and Educational Publishing, the Dean enters the study room dressed as a Payday peanut candy bar to tell Jeff and Buzz Hickey that their checks have been postponed. To make up for the delay, the Dean apologizes with a hilarious rap, which could easily rival Glover’s discography.
The rap comes up during the Q and A, and Rash quips “I don’t want to say I invented rap. I don’t want to say I made it better…I guess I just went to a place of artistry.” While Rash may only be fake proud of his rapping abilities, they do gain the stamp of approval from the legendary rapper Childish Gambino, aka Glover.
When asked about the payday rap, Glover goes into depth, praising not only Rash’s comic abilities but his rapping skills as well. Rash was so proud of the compliment that he “updated his resume” right away.
