10 Things We Learned From Twin Peaks: The Return Part 10
2. The Las Vegas Plots Are Converging
For those still dismayed at the duration of Cooper hosting Dougie Jones, the various Vegas subplots converged.
We spent a lot of time with the Mitchum Brothers who, as we were unfortunately told and not shown, are in competition with Duncan Todd. Their scenes were variously comedic masterclasses (Amy Shiels' Candie is such an ethereal delight that you can't help wonder if she isn't of this world) and menacing premonitions of Cooper's future and that of his adopted family. Todd revealed his intention to use and potentially incriminate the Mitchums to resolve the Dougie Jones issue on his behalf - the "two birds with one stone" of ???????'s clues, or more thematic doubling?
The fingering of Cooper's DNA should align the brothers Fusco with the FBI. Anthony Sinclair (played with barely suppressed rage by a brilliant Tom Sizemore) connected the remaining plot threads (with the possible exception of Ike The Spike, who "finally stepped on his d*ck" as Bradley Mitchum brilliantly put it) in a scene over which Badalamanti's score was at its most ominous. The implications of this choice are troubling. The slow rise to brilliance of Janey-E Jones renders a potential death scene utterly heartbreaking.
A Dale Cooper Vs. Mitchum Brothers showdown has been instigated - the clearest hint yet of his full restoration.
