10 Things We Learned From Twin Peaks: The Return Part 13
5. A Seven Year Old Storm
Lawrence Jacoby, Dr. Amp, backs up on his night drive when confronted by the sight of his golden shovel in the window of RUN SILENT, RUN DRAPES.
He knocks on the door and is met by a fawning Nadine Hurley, every bit as wild-eyed and enthusiastic as she was 25 years ago. "Those drapes," she purrs, "are completely silent". Jacoby is somewhat less enthused, after first appreciating this worshipping fan service from his most loyal "shoveller". The last time Jacoby saw Nadine was seven years ago. She was on her hands and knees on the supermarket, attempting to locate a stray potato which, given Nadine's chequered mental health history, conjures something of a tragicomic image.
"There was a big storm that day," he recalled. The number seven has featured prominently in The Return. It is the floor on which Dougie "works" in Lucky 7 Insurance, most notably.
This was an interesting, if scant scene - Peaksian in both atmosphere and content - but the real significance may lie between the lines. In a series in which time is distorted, we may actually see that raging storm.
