10 Things We Learned From Twin Peaks: The Return Part 7
5. Mr. C Has Escaped From Prison
Mr. C has escaped from prison, if that is the correct term to use. It seems, with his research into it and reckless driving, that the aim was to get himself incarcerated in order to break underling Ray Monroe free.
"The dog leg," he intoned to Warden Murphy during their secret meeting. MacLachlan's monotone is perfect line reading. He speaks very much like the blank void of humanity he is, only climbing the register with a faltering defect when failing to capture the goodness of the man he has been posing as.
The two men entered a curious coded dialogue, all dog legs, Joe McClusky, your "late Mr. Strawberry - "...this" situation. Whether any of this materialises into plot is doubtful. Warden Murphy acquiesces to the threat and will thus apparently never see Mr. C again. Still, even in this scrambled context, it is the stuff of which a quarter century of discussion is made of.
What next? Mr. C wants - does not need - coordinates from Will Hasting's secretary, something we have learned he requires Ray to act as intermediary for. The plot is due to circle back to the motel room with Jennifer Jason Leigh's Chantal Hutchens and her as yet unseen husband.
What those coordinates are for is another mystery. Mr. C knows of at least one portal to the Black Lodge, and may have financed another. In an hour in which so much was spelled out, so much else was obscured.
Does the 4:30 meeting time between Deputy Andy and the driver of the hit and run truck hold any significance?
