10 Things We Learned From Twin Peaks: The Return Part 7
4. The Major Briggs Subplot Yields More Questions Than Answers
Part 7 was a traditional return to both the town itself and the propulsive narrative that once served it. Certain plot machinations from a quarter of a century ago were explained with far more telling than showing. One such scene - Knox's discovery of Major Briggs' corpse - contrasted that approach.
The whereabouts of the decapitated head remains unknown, but more information was parcelled out. In true, mystifying Peaksian form, it created further layers of mystery, contradicting information we have received previously.
Coroner Constance Talbot dated the corpse as in its late 40s, and confirmed the date of death as within the previous week. According to son Bobby Briggs in Part 4, the Major was presumed to have perished in a fire days after Dale Cooper's disappearance from the town. According to the Pentagon, and the existing text, Briggs had he lived would have reached the age of 70, at least. Ages are left obscure, but the discrepancy of 25 years is clear. What isn't is why Cooper kept the body on ice for that long.
We hate to admit this, but we do not understand this situation at all.
