10 Things We NEED To See In The Rings Of Power

1. The Fall Of Isildur

The Lord of the Rings: The Ring of Power
New Line Cinema

Peter Jackson's telling of the fall of Isildur was so condensed it seemed as though he was killed returning home from the Battle of the Last Alliance. However, in Tolkien's original writing, Isildur ruled for several years after taking the Ring.

We already know the showrunners intend to tell Isildur's story as a tragedy, so it's likely they'll expand his character far beyond the one-dimensional one we got in Jackson's films. It's likely we'll see him escape the destruction of NĂºmenor and lead the remaining men to resist Sauron during the Last Alliance. It will be the period after this, however, that shows his downfall and eventual death.

Tolkien detailed that after his return to Gondor, Isildur spent several years teaching his nephew the way of rule. He then intended to journey to Rivendell, possibly to seek Elrond's advice about what to do with the Ring. On route he was attacked by a huge host of orcs. He managed to beat them back several times but was so outnumbered he soon realised it was hopeless. Isildur commanded his square to flee with the shards of Narsil, and take them to Elrond. Eventually all of Isildur's sons were slain before he eventually fell to the orc arrows.

No doubt this will be one of the final moments in the show, it certainly has the potential to be a dramatic end point.
