10 Things We NEED To See In The Rings Of Power

9. The Establishing Of Gondor

One of the key things to happen in the Second Age of Middle-earth, was the establishing of the realm of Gondor. After Sauron corrupted Númenor, those who survived fled to Middle-earth. They were led by Elendil and his two sons, Isildur and Anárion. For anyone who forgot, these were the ancestors of Aragorn.

North of the Shire they set up the realm of Arnor where the Dúnedain lived. In the South they set up the realm of Gondor which was intended to keep watch on the land of Mordor. This was a crucial factor in disrupting Sauron's plans for domination. After his actions led to the destruction of the island kingdom of Númenor, the men of the West never trusted the Dark Lord again, and would remain his fiercest enemies.

The way this all unfolds in the show is likely to be very different. Isildur has been confirmed as a main character, but his description is of a young sailor, who eventually becomes King of Gondor. It's implied we'll see more of a rags to riches tale, rather than sticking to Tolkien's original vision for him.
