10 Things We’re Hoping To Get From BBC America’s The Watch
9. Raising The Watch
When we first saw The Watch it consisted of four (or rather three, with one recently buried) washed out losers sitting in a shed, tasked with policing the nightlife of the largest city of the Disc.
Over the course of the series, through inspiration, determination, a large amount of petty theft and a complete refusal to acknowledge danger, The Watch becomes the model of a competent police force.
The road is hard and exhausting, but the transformation truly is impressive. Under Vimes' guidance, Carrot's moral inflexibility, Angua's ferociousness and a suspiciously thorough understanding of the criminal mind from Corporal Nobbs, The Watch is ultimately a tale of overcoming monumental odds in order to do the right thing.
Though effective, even as they grow larger The Watch never exactly has the upper hand in any engagement. Always up against either small criminals that will fight dirtier or large criminals that will fight smarter, we see them struggle at every stage. The fact of their ultimate success is an inspiring story, a reminder that what is right is not always easy, but that success is never beyond possibility.
