10 Things We’re Hoping To Get From BBC America’s The Watch

7. Nobby Nobbs, Esq.

Of all the strange and disgusting things to crawl out of the dark places of Discworld, there's nothing quite so memorable as Corporal Nobby Nobbs.

Allegedly human - with a certificate from the Patrician stating that he almost certainly is - Nobby Nobbs was a key character from the start of the series. As memorable as he is revolting and perfectly loveable so long as you don't have to smell him, Nobby gave some slapstick levity to the occasionally sombre tone of their adventures.

Surprisingly intelligent, Corporal Nobbs was an invaluable asset to the Watch. In fact, this gremlin of a man had more depth than one would expect. With an appreciation of art (particularly its market-value) and a penchant for folk dancing, he has on occasion even been accused of nobility.

Although silverware and small, shiny objects tend to disappear around him, his sense of danger and innate understanding of the criminal underworld have proven pivotal time and again.

Sadly there's no sign that he'll appear in the upcoming series, but it's hard to imagine that the showrunners would turn down such a memorable character and such a fantastic plot device.

My passion for all things Sci Fi goes back to my earliest days, when old VHS copies of Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet gripped my tiny mind with their big, noisy vehicles and terrifying puppets. I'd like to say my taste got more refined over the years, but between the Warhammer, Space Dandy and niche Star Wars EU books, perhaps it just got broader. I've enjoyed games of all calibre since I figured out that dice weren't just for eating, and have written prose ever since I was left unsupervised with some crayons next to a white wall. I got away with it by calling it "schoolwork" for as long as I could, and university helped me keep the charade going a while longer. Since my work began to get published, it's made all those long hours repainting the walls seem worth it.
