10 Things We’re Hoping To Get From BBC America’s The Watch

2. Death Himself

In Terry Pratchett's works, Death is not cruel so much as he is terribly good at his job.

Portrayed in the classic Skeleton-and-Scythe style, Death was a recurring character throughout the novels. As the shepherd of living souls into the afterlife, he was not immune to the sentiments of the living. In his own stories he underwent several mid-life crises and changes of job, with predictably devastating results.

Overall, Death was one of the most beloved characters of the franchise, and certainly a favourite of Pratchett himself. The show made an excellent choice for voice actor in Wendell Peirce, who will be able to deliver this unique blend of gravitas and charm. He'll be joining other individuals to have played the Disc's Death, most notably everyone's favourite Saruman, Christopher Lee.

Polite, efficient, and with some of the very best lines in the Discworld series, Death takes a very personal role in Ankh-Morpork. Our Watchmen will have to keep an ear open for any particularly witty comments if they want to make it to season two.

My passion for all things Sci Fi goes back to my earliest days, when old VHS copies of Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet gripped my tiny mind with their big, noisy vehicles and terrifying puppets. I'd like to say my taste got more refined over the years, but between the Warhammer, Space Dandy and niche Star Wars EU books, perhaps it just got broader. I've enjoyed games of all calibre since I figured out that dice weren't just for eating, and have written prose ever since I was left unsupervised with some crayons next to a white wall. I got away with it by calling it "schoolwork" for as long as I could, and university helped me keep the charade going a while longer. Since my work began to get published, it's made all those long hours repainting the walls seem worth it.
