10 Things You Didn’t Know About The Making Of Buffy The Vampire Slayer

5. Sarah Michelle Gellar Had To Redo The Library Scene In The First Episode

The first episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a nostalgic joyride with plenty of classic scenes. Midway through the episode, Buffy confronts Giles in the school library and unveils her reluctance about being a Slayer.

During the initial shoot, Sarah Michelle Gellar’s performance was far too aggressive, and she had to come back after the entire season had been made and shoot this scene all over again. However, Antony Stewart Head did not return for the reshoot, so the scene is actually a mishmash of two completely separate days of filming:

“…we went back and just shot Sarah’s side of this scene. So I could bring her performance down to a place where it was more vulnerable… We’re talking… eight months apart between this angle of Giles and this angle of Buffy.”

Given this significant time span, the crew did a terrific job of covering up the mistake. Even if you’re aware of what happened, you’ll struggle to find any continuity errors.
