10 Things You Didn’t Know About The Making Of Buffy The Vampire Slayer
4. Alyson Hannigan Told Joss Whedon About Nerf Herder
The opening titles of Buffy the Vampire Slayer are an iconic part of the show. The music – which is performed by the rock band Nerf Herder – is simple, fast, punchy, and fits the tone of the show perfectly.
Initially, the producers had a composer create a theme for the opening titles, but Joss Whedon wasn’t happy with the result. So, keen to find something that was trendy, Whedon turned to his young cast members for help, and Alyson Hannigan told him about Nerf Herder, a rock band from Santa Barbara, California. Though several other bands also made theme tunes, Nerf Herder’s was deemed to be the best and was selected to be the Buffy theme song.
Hannigan always receives an abundance of praise for her stellar performance as Willow Rosenberg, but few fans know about her contribution to the theme song. If it wasn’t for her, the opening titles would have been completely different.
