10 Things You Didn't Know About Bart Simpson

4. He (And His Siblings) Are Of French Descent

Bart may have a talent for languages and he may have a surprising amount of intelligence in that spiky head of his, but there's another reason as to why he is able to speak near-perfect French. That's because Bart, Lisa, and Maggie are all of French descent. You may recall Clancy Bouvier (aka Marge's father) popping in an episode where he was a male air-stewardess (and caused Marge's fear of flying) or when he occasionally popped up as a secondary background character. As it turns out, there was more to Clancy than just being a dead character or a throwaway joke. In the episode 'The Colour Yellow', it is revealed that Clancy is French and that all of Marge's family on her father's side is from France. Working forwards, that means that Marge, Selma, and Patty are half-French and Bart, Lisa, and Maggie are a quarter-French. When you think about it, Bart's French heritage does explain his surprisingly long list of ex-girlfriends, his cooking skills, why his future self seems to always be an alcoholic, and why he's awesome at ballet.

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
