It was the end of an almighty era back in Series 2 when the Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler were tragically torn apart and there wasn't a dry eye in the house as they bid their final heartbreaking farewell on the shores of Bad Wolf Bay... and we're still not over it! They truly were a formidable on screen force to be reckoned with but fans should be thankful that they got to enjoy as much of them together as they did, really, since Billie was originally going to leave the show even earlier. The actress had originally planned to exit the TARDIS halfway through Series 2 owing to the fact that she didn't know how fans and critics would react to Christopher Eccleston's sudden departure. As it turns out, though, David Tennant came along and she just couldn't get enough, which is something that his legion of dedicated devotees can certainly understand. It's probably a good thing that she extended her contract, too. Steven Moffat has made no secret of the fact that the BBC depended on Billie - he even went so far as to say that it was her show for the first two years - and they probably would've axed the whole thing if she'd decided to step down alongside Christopher at the end of Series 1. No pressure then, Bills!
