10 Things You Didn't Know About Firefly

3. Built To Scale

During production of Firefly, set creation took up a whopping two sound stages. The reason? The whole interior of the Serenity was built to scale.

Sound stage 1 housed all of the upper deck locations including the cockpit, mess hall and living quarters. On sound stage two were any locations needed for shots showing the lower depths of the Serenity class ship, including engine room, shuttle docking bays and various cargo holds.

As production continued the cast also became very close and to this day still maintain regular contact and often appearing in each others projects (check out Alan Tudyk's Con Man for multiple cameos, plus it's ace).

Due to this closeness the idea of spending any off time filming in either the green rooms available or their own trailers did not sit well with any of them. The chill out spot of choice? The set itself.

Due to the size and familiarity with the set, most of the cast could be found spending most of their relaxing time in the actual lounge of Serenity. This bond off camera clearly translated to the chemistry on screen and in turn, the success of Firefly itself.
