10 Things You Didn't Know About Jenna-Louise Coleman

5. She Could've Been Mels

Jenna has well and truly left a lasting legacy on the Doctor Who mythology after jumping into our beloved hero's time stream and insistently imprinting herself on the lives of all of his previous incarnations (you really had to be there!) but her Whoniversal journey could've been vey, very different. Jenna originally screen tested for the part of Mels in Series 6's Let's Kill Hitler before the part was given to Nina Toussaint-White instead. It wouldn't be fair to speculate why Jenna wasn't chosen (although it probably had something to do with the fact that portraying a reckless school girl with violent tendencies would've been too similar to her character in Waterloo Road...?), so let's just say that the producers saw something special in her and wanted to keep their options open for the role of the Doctor's next companion instead. Besides, it worked out well for everyone conceded in the end, but for all the theorists out there who are still convinced that Clara Oswald is actually River Song (whatever helps you sleep at night!), rest easy with the knowledge that she actually almost was.
