10 Things You Didn't Know About The Making Of The Simpsons

5. Danny Elfman Composed The Iconic Theme Tune In 3 Days, 2 Hours, 48 Minutes & 19 Seconds

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cOdYyx1oKI It's one of the most iconic theme tunes ever written, and it only took composer Danny Elfman - best known, perhaps, for his filmic collaborations with director Tim Burton - 3 days to come up with it. Quite the feat when you recall how many people have come to know this theme off by heart - and how many people hear it on a daily basis all over the world! Matt Groening originally approached Elfman asking for "a retro-styled theme." Given that the spec was so loosely defined, the composer clearly outdid himself. What many people don't know about the theme is that it's Danny Elfman himself - and two of his friends - who can be hard singing those three iconic "The Simp-sons" notes just before the music kicks in. "Those are the three notes that kept me in health insurance for 25 years," Elfman said of it. Today, he still regards "The Simpsons Theme" to be his most popular composition ever.
