10 Things You Learn Rewatching Futurama

5. How Emotional It Was

Futurama Amy Fry
Fox

Everybody knows about Jurassic Bark, easily one of television’s most emotional episodes. Fry finds his fossilised dog Seymour, but eventually decides not to bring it back to life thinking it will have had a happy life without him, and will have forgotten their time together.

As the audience finds out though, Seymour actually waited outside Fry’s apartment his entire life, until one day he curled up and went to sleep forever. It’s a heart wrenching moment, and gets the lion’s share of the discussion of Futurama’s emotional moments. Binge watching back though, you realise just how many of these moments Futurama had.

Fry sitting by Leela’s hospbed wanting her to wake up, Nibbler allowing Fry to revisit his mother’s dreams to say goodbye, Hermes saving a young Bender’s life, Yancy naming his son after Fry, U Leave Me Breathless, Leela’s Cavern On The Scream message, Fry moving the stars for Leela... there’s so many hugely impactful moments that animated shows don’t often deliver.

Fry and Leela’s relationship is the building block for a lot of these, and that’s because the show went far further than a standard will they won’t they dynamic.

Then of course, there’s the endings...
