3. Where Was Lane's Dad?
A recurring joke throughout the series is how Lane Kim's father is never seen on screen. He has frequently been mentioned, with both Lane and Mrs Kim claiming he is at home or around town, yet no one encounters him.
Even with his contstant absense, it always felt like we'd seen Mr Kim present at least one, perhaps in a very brief blink-and-you'll-miss-it flash. But the truth is Lane's dad is not present ONCE throughout the original series, not even for a second. Even on her wedding day with Zach, he didn't attend.
It makes us wonder what lifestyle Mr Kim led for him to be so private. In an interview, Emily Kuroda (Mrs Kim) and Keiko Agena (Lane) believed he worked in Korea most of the time as a minister and travelled a lot.
The 2016 revival on the show did graze on the mysterious figure as Lane's father is seen for a casual moment, before never appearing again in A Year in the Life.
