10 Things You Learn Rewatching Star Wars Rebels

8. Where Did Ezra's Second Lightsaber Come From?

The episode Path of the Jedi ends with Ezra finding a kyber crystal, the gem used to power a Jedi's lightsaber. Kanan points out that kyber crystals are really rare, especially after the fall of the Jedi, and finding one in the Temple on Lothal acts as one of Ezra's first major steps to becoming a Jedi. He uses the crystal to construct a one of a kind Lightsaber, made from an old blaster, which functions as both types of weapons.

However, in the Season 2 finale, Twilight of the Apprentice, Ezra loses his lightsaber. His Jedi training doesn't stop there, though, since, by the first episode of Season 3, Ezra wields a new lightsaber. This new weapon is much more traditional than his original lightsaber, being just a single green blade without any blaster component.

Despite the construction of his first lightsaber being such a turning point for Ezra's character, the construction of his second is a mystery. The series neither shows nor addresses where the blade came from, and it's easy to forget that its origins are never a plot point.

To make matters even more confusing, in Twilight of the Apprentice, Ezra briefly wields a three sided Kylo Ren-esq lightsaber. Why not have him take that weapon to use for the second half of the series? At least then we would know where Ezra was able to find one of the rarest Jedi artifacts in the galaxy.
