10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Mr. Robot

In the world of film, directors conduct the filmmaking process as if it were an orchestra. This gives birth to what we call auteurism, in which the very soul of the artist, through style and craft, can be seen on the screen. Television however is very much a different beast. Series flip through different directors as if pages of a book, giving episodes even more of a varying degree of quality and feel.

What make Mr. Robot so unique of a show in this regard is that a majority of the episodes are actually directed by Sam Esmail himself. Out of the 45 episodes that make up the series, he directed a whopping 38 of them. The only season that he didn't direct every episode in was season one.

This is a huge reason why the show has such a unified feel to it. If you were to somehow stich every episode together, it'd feel like one ridiculously long, yet all together cohesive movie. Auteurism in TV storytelling is rare, and Mr. Robot is arguably the greatest example of it.
