The costume department has always been a gleaming jewel in HBO's Westerosi crown.

Game of Thrones consistently received acclaim for the breathtaking levels of detail and creative flair exhibited across the show's clothing designs - a mantle that House of the Dragon has dutifully picked up in glorious fashion. It tends to help when you have the talents of a mind like Jany Temime - the creative force behind much of the Harry Potter franchise's wardrobe - to fall back on.

The outfitting to date has been exemplary. The show offers up a gorgeous medley of armour, robes and dresses that lovingly pay tribute to Benioff and Weiss' original while integrating inspired new touches of their own. In particular, the ancestral garb of House Velaryon and the show's contemporary take on the Kingsguard's armour number amongst the most impressive new cosmetic elements.

House of the Dragon's wardrobe also happens to implement yet another stunning piece of hidden detail. The magnificent necklace worn by Rhaenyra at her coronation in the first episode subtly features the sigils of the great houses of Westeros. Incidentally, the engravings also reflect the intricate designs on the golden crown that she eventually inherits from her late father Viserys.
