10 Times Doctor Who Appeared In Other TV Shows - Commenter Edition

6. Rick And Morty

Rick and Morty Doctor Who reference
Adult Swim

Rick and Morty obviously contains a number of parallels with Doctor Who, from Rick being an eccentric super-genius, to Morty as his more relatable companion, to the general idea of exploring a universe via time or interstellar travel.

Creator Dan Harmon has even mentioned Doctor Who as a primary influence for the show, so it was only a matter of time before a direct nod to the Whoniverse appeared in one of Rick and Morty's crazy adventures.

That time came in the season three finale The Rickchurian Mortydate, where Rick basically spends the entire episode trying to get one over on the President of the United States. Not known for his humility, Rick soon proceeds to brag about how awesome he is, directly telling his rival "you don't know what I am, or what I can do! I'm Doctor Who in this motherf**ker!"

Now, not to split hairs Mr. Harmon - because you obviously wrote it like that to make the reference clear - but the Doctor is not called "Doctor Who".

Pedantic nitpicks aside though, it's such a cool line, rightfully acknowledging that the Doctor is one of the most badass, fearsome characters in all of pop-culture.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
