10 Times Doctor Who Definitely Wasn’t A Family Show

9. Melody Turns Into A Puddle - A Good Man Goes To War

The Doctor Falls

The core arc of Series 6 focuses on Amy’s pregnancy and the identity of River Song, two plot threads that most viewers probably didn't realise had any connection whatsoever. When, in a shocking conclusion to the mostly iffy The Almost People, it is revealed that Amy is a flesh duplicate, and has been for the majority of the series so far, it becomes clear that Eleven is on a bit of a warpath. Cue The Battle of Demon’s Run, in which the Doctor and Rory manage to rescue both Amy and her newborn, Melody, without a drop of blood spilled.

The first hints of darkness come when Eleven flies off the hook at Colonel Manton and Madame Kovarian, openly threatening them, but the real gut punch comes when baby Melody liquifies in Amy’s arms as she screams, looking at her baby-goop coated hands. Despite the fact that we find out moments later that Melody is alive and well, it remains a rather harrowing moment. In revenge, Amy later kills Madame Kovarian in cold blood, which could very nearly justify its own entry on this list, but given the circumstances, we’ll give Amy a pass on this one.
