10 Times Doctor Who Definitely Wasn’t A Family Show

7. House Plays Games With Amy And Rory - The Doctor’s Wife

The Doctor Falls
BBC

This moment is slightly different to others on this list, in the sense that it happens slap bang in the middle of what is otherwise a fairly goofy, albeit emotional episode - The Doctor’s Wife. After landing in a bubble universe in search of a mysterious signal from a presumed dead Time Lord, Eleven sends Amy and Rory back to the TARDIS. This turns out to be a historically bad judgement call, as the signal turns out to be a trap, and the TARDIS is hijacked by a malignant entity known only as House, with Amy and Rory still trapped inside.

House proceeds to toy with the Ponds, playing with their minds as they run for their lives through the dimly lit TARDIS corridors. At one point, they are separated, and when Amy finds Rory again, he has visibly aged and is clearly unhinged. He lunges at Amy, cursing her for leaving him alone again, before a door closes between them. Amy then stumbles across him again except this time, he’s nothing but a withered corpse (a rather graphic one for Doctor Who, I might add), and the walls are covered in frantic writing, reading ‘KILL AMY’, ‘HATE AMY’ and other insane ramblings. Some of them even appear to be written in his own blood... Amy is understandably pretty traumatised by this, and so are we, given how out of left-field this moment was.
