One of the first episodes in NuWho set in the past, The Empty Child followed the Ninth Doctor and Rose as they visited London during the Blitz. Except that the people in London dont really act like theyre living through the worst bombing in history. Throughout the episode, lights are left on as the civilians try to escape the bombings. Big Ben remains lit up even as the bombs start falling. And there isn't a single blackout curtain to be seen, despite the fact that every schoolchild in England knows about the widespread campaign to make sure that everything possible was done to keep London dark during the attacks in order to limit that damage and loss of life. The importance of the blackout was even a plot-point a few series later in Victory of the Daleks, so it's not as if this bit of history is obscure. In addition to London being lit up light a Christmas tree, there's the question of what, exactly, the barrage balloons were being used for in the episode. Barrage balloons were installed over London to protect the city from low flying aircraft, and yet the episode saw a whole squad of planes flying underneath them. The planes in question should have had their wings ripped apart by the steel cables that tethered the balloons. Of course, steel cables would have been much harder for Rose to hang from, and these were replaced in the episode by ropes.
With a (nearly) useless degree in English literature and a personal trainer qualification he's never used, Freddie spends his times writing things that he hopes will somehow pay the rent. He's also a former professional singer, and plays the saxophone and ukulele. He's not really used to talking about himself in the third person, and would like to stop now, thanks.
