8. James Bond
How could 007 not influence Doctor Who? The behemoth franchise has had an impact on nearly everything else since its introduction just a year earlier than Doctor Who. Bond may not have created the mad scientist super villain but it certainly helped popularise it further and many Who baddies, such as Mavic Chen, Harrison Chase and Count Scarlioni, can be seen as being inspired by the likes of Dr No and Blofeld. The Third Doctor with his dashing leading man machismo and love of gadgets can be seen to be influenced by James Bond to an extent as well. The 1970s were when Bond went gadget mad and Roger Moore sported a more flamboyant wardrobe. Bond may have driven a gadget laden Aston Martin and a Lotus that could go underwater but that was nothing on Bessie and the Whomobile. Colin Baker's Sixth - shaken, not stirred - also had the Bond like tendency of spouting an inappropriate quip whenever a foe died. You get used to it.
