There was flashbacks, then flashforwards, then one final flash sideways twist as the characters were shown in an alternative universe where the crash never happened (so three years prior to the present time). Close to the finale, we see that in the other universe, Jack has a son, a bit of a weird revelation when everything would supposedly be the same up until the crash. There was a big story behind Jack and David's awkward relationship, eventually resolving when David revealed he was a talented pianist, which brought them closer together. David didn't want his father to see him fail, which is why it was a secret all this time. It's a direct correlation to Jack's relationship with his own father, which seems to be the only relevance of this storyline. Seems a bit pointless for them to go through all that only for Jack to move on once he's reunited with his fellow crash friends. Did he just leave his son behind directly after forming a bond with him? He didn't even seem to give it a second thought, which doesn't seem to be a good reflection on Jack's character. It came across as a last minute attempt for the writers to shock the audience one last time, only for it to add nothing to either the show or Jack's character. What other moments in Lost seemed designed to aggravate fans? Let us know in the comments below.
