10 Times Mad Men Became The Weirdest Drama On Television
8. That Time The New Boss's Foot Got Shredded By A Lawnmower
Again, a shocker out of nowhere, and one of pure horror for those who count their feet amongst their most prized features, season 3 episode Guy Walks Into An Advertising Agency is home to Mad Men's most gruesome moment. For the uninitiated, all you really need to know is it involves a clumsy secretary, an errant lawnmower and the foot of Sterling Cooper's new Chief Operating Manager. It's a brutal scene, seeing formerly celebrating employees splattered with the shredded remnants of Guy MacKendrick's foot, but most odd is how this one reads like Matthew Weiner's really peculiar, overly-elaborate way of writing MacKendrick out of the story. (A sudden onset of illness would've sufficed, but no, Weiner just had to go for the hamburger-meat foot.) Weirder still is how this one's designed to incite queasy chuckles, with the show taking the absurd dark comedy to new extremes. And that's saying something for a programme that once played the death of a secretary for laughs.
