10 Times Mad Men Became The Weirdest Drama On Television

7. That Time Roger Tripped Balls

As one of the older, not exactly wiser but definitely more cynical members of the Sterling Cooper ad firm, it was surely a surprise to see Roger Sterling - war veteran, and perfectly-coiffed gentleman - open himself up to the psychedelia of the 1960s. And it all began in season 5's Far Away Places, when Roger first dropped acid and found himself tripping absolute balls to the sound of The Beach Boys's I Just Wasn't Made For These Times. It's an appropriate soundtrack to the curmudgeonly Roger's first LSD sesh - until, that is, he starts getting into it and finds his mind expanding, man. The viewer experiences what Roger experiences, as atmospheres, locations and records change, and Rog starts to embrace the power of his hallucinations. These include seeing a man with two opposing stripes of black and white hair in the mirror and witnessing an imaginary game of baseball from the bathtub. Groovy.
