10 Times Scotty Saved The Day In Star Trek

6. Escaping The Dyson Sphere

Scotty is nothing if not an out-of-the-box thinker. Despite his retirement, he is able to stay alive well past his life expectancy after the ship he is on, the USS Jenolan, comes into contact with a Dyson Sphere - an immense structure thought to be theoretical. It is effectively an enormous ball that encircles a star, harnessing its power for an unlimited supply.

The gravimetric waves it creates force the Jenolan to crash land on the surface, endangering the lives of the survivors - Scotty and Franklin. Scotty manages to set up the transporter in such a way that the two men survive in suspended animation - though only Scotty makes it out alive.

He attempts to readjust to life, though he is now almost a century out of date. However, when the Enterprise-D is pulled inside the Dyson Sphere, it is Scotty who manages to save them - working with Geordi LaForge to get it done. Scotty makes a doorstop out of the Jenolan, holding the massive space doors open long enough for the Enterprise-D to escape.

At the very last moment, and despite the ship's shields being in the way, the Enterprise beams Scotty and LaForge aboard, ensuring that all escape. Scotty is then loaned a shuttle, with his adventures set to continue.
